Durable, Non-Slip Decking Strips — Better than the Alternatives

Whether you have a deck now or are planning one, you’ll want to make sure anti-slip deck strips are top of your mind.

It’s worth including some anti-slip safety products for all kinds of decks ranging from lake and poolside decks to multi-level decks.

Anti-slip deck strips are designed to withstand all of the daily foot traffic your family dishes out. They have many advantages:

  • Easy to install
  • Available in various colors and sizes
  • Corrosion resistant to a range of chemicals
  • Lightweight
  • Durable
  • Suitable for bare foot traffic

Non-slip decking strips are perfect for high-traffic areas of your deck, ramps, steps and even docks and pontoons.

You have alternatives to consider but slip resistant deck strips will always be an excellent option.

Do Nothing

It’s kind of unthinkable, but some homeowners don’t take any precautions. They build a gorgeous deck and make every effort to seal or stain it year after year. But they don’t do anything to keep the deck from turning into a temporary Slip ‘N Slide.

The family or guests you’re entertaining may have accidents at any moment, not just when kids scurry across the deck. Water, moss, algae, and leaves can cause decks to become slippery, risking serious injuries.

There’s an easy way to make decks safer: You can simply add deck strips to instantly fix those slick areas.

Non-Slip Abrasive Tape

Some deck owners apply non-slip abrasive tape to deck steps. It’s better than neglecting all safety measures. Unfortunately, the quality can vary, and the tape can easily wear or break off. It won’t be long before the tape fails to cover the steps that also become unsightly.

Water-Based Elastomeric Coatings

You can’t go wrong by using elastomeric coatings on your decks. It’s a first start to help keep people from slipping. But anti-slip fiberglass deck strips provide superior protection in all of the right places.

Mats

They’re really only suitable right beside pools and hot tubs (water drains through holes in the mats). Otherwise, the mats would cover up your deck and take away from its appearance.

Extra Tips and Benefits

Anti-slip decking strips are an easy do-it-yourself project. You don’t need to worry about messy glues or adhesives. You need only screws, a drill and maybe a hack saw.

Rotted wood can be dangerous under any circumstances. It would be especially so if you tried to install deck strips over top and cover the damaged wood.

Fill any holes or cracks and make sure the surface is clean and dry. If you want to paint or stain or seal your deck, we suggest doing that prior to installing the deck strips.

The deck strips from Sure-Foot Industries can withstand punishment from the worst Mother Nature can dish out. They have been put to the test and held up in all types of environments — from blistering heat to bone-chilling cold to relentless rain.

Our deck strips are designed with tapered (beveled) edges, so you don’t have to worry about tripping or catching your shoe on the edges.

Maintenance

Your deck should be cleaned periodically to remove dirt and prevent slippery algae and mold from building up. You can use a cleaner especially made to target mold and mildew; apply it with a broom and rinse. You can even clean with a pressure washer up to 1000 PSI.

We manufacture our deck strips to last and they won’t lose their non-slip texture. Deck strips are a great solution to make your deck look good while also keeping it much safer. If you have any questions, contact us today.
